Protection International

From November 2022 to January 2025, I worked as Communications Officer at Protection International (PI), leading digital communications across social media, web, publications and multimedia content. I translated complex human rights and protection issues into accessible communications for international audiences, while coordinating multilingual publications, campaigns, online events and external creative suppliers.

During this period, I also helped lead PI’s internal rebranding process, coordinating consultations across the organisation and managing the external designer and videography agency responsible for producing the final visual and multimedia assets. Following the launch of the new identity in June 2024, I oversaw its implementation across PI’s communications and developed materials using the new visual system.

My digital communications work contributed to a 35% increase in website visitors and stronger audience engagement. I also coordinated the multilingual publication and dissemination of PI’s Global Strategy Framework 2024–2028, which generated more than 1,000 downloads in 2024.

The examples below show the breadth of my work at PI, from institutional publications and brand implementation to accessible publishing, editorial coordination and hands-on design. Together, they reflect how I combined strategy, production and visual consistency across multilingual communications.

Rebranding and New Identity Implementation

In 2024, Protection International introduced a new global visual identity. I led the process internally, coordinating consultations across the organisation and its regional offices, and managing the external designer and videography agency responsible for developing the final brand and multimedia assets.

Following the launch of the new identity in June 2024, I coordinated its implementation across PI’s communications, translating the new visual system into practical applications for web, social media, publications and institutional materials.

My role

  • Coordinated internal consultations and feedback

  • Liaised with the external designer and videography agency

  • Supported review and approval of final brand assets

  • Coordinated the rollout across communications channels

  • Designed and adapted materials using the new visual identity

  • Ensures consistency across formats and teams

Selected visual work

institutional publications

I wrote and coordinated two Protection International Annual Reports produced under different visual identities, managing the editorial process from content development through publication and dissemination.

The first was produced under PI’s previous visual identity, while the second applied the organisation’s new brand following its 2024 rollout.

My Role

  • Wrote and edited institutional content

  • Coordinated contributions across teams

  • Managed editorial workflows and deadlines

  • Coordinated visual and publication processes

  • Supported web publication and digital dissemination

  • Ensured consistency across content, messaging and visual identity.

Publication Coordination
& Multimedia Launch

Global Strategy Framework 2024–2028

Protection International launched its Global Strategy Framework 2024–2028 alongside the organisation’s new visual identity, using both milestones to reinforce a renewed institutional narrative and make the strategy accessible to different audiences.

The publication was developed in several formats and languages, allowing readers to engage with the strategy at different levels of depth.

My role

I coordinated the publication and dissemination process across the full set of outputs:

  • Coordinated the publication of the full 48-page Global Strategy Framework, including the English version and its Spanish and French translations

  • Managed multilingual publication workflows, coordinating translators, internal reviews, external suppliers and final approvals

  • Co-compiled the Executive Summary with the Executive Director, creating a shorter and more accessible version of the strategy for wider audiences

  • Coordinated the Spanish and French translations of all the materials

  • Developed the concept and wrote the script for a 90-second explainer video introducing the new strategy

  • Coordinated the external agency responsible for video production, from briefing through delivery

  • Supported the digital launch and dissemination strategy across web and social media channels

The Global Strategy Framework generated more than 1,000 downloads in 2024.

Human Rights Defenders with Disabilities

I served as Publishing Coordinator for Strengthening the Inclusion, Protection, and Wellbeing of Human Rights Defenders with Disabilities, an international resource developed to strengthen more inclusive protection practices for human rights defenders with disabilities.

Produced under PI’s previous visual identity, the publication required particular attention to accessibility, multilingual dissemination and the needs of different audiences.

My role

  • Coordinated the full publication process across internal teams, contributors, translators, designers, illustrators, and external suppliers, from content preparation through final publication and dissemination.

  • Managed translations into Spanish, French, Russian, Arabic and Swahili, coordinating review and delivery across all language versions.

  • Supervised the layout of every translated edition with the external designer, ensuring consistency across languages while adapting layouts where necessary.

  • Integrated accessibility considerations into the publication workflow, including alternative text and other accessible-PDF requirements, and supported accessible digital formats for dissemination.

  • Developed and coordinated two audiovisual outputs to support the launch of the guide:

    • For a video featuring African women human rights defenders with disabilities, I developed the concept and editorial approach, wrote the script, coordinated contributors and production, and managed the external supplier responsible for editing.

    • For a second explainer video featuring the project chairperson and coordinator, I developed the approach, briefed the speaker for remote recording, selected and structured the material, edited the video and prepared it for digital dissemination.

  • Coordinated the launch webinar, which brought together 225 participants and included simultaneous sign-language interpretation, managing pre-, durin-g and post-event communications and supporting an accessible participant experience.

  • Coordinated supporting web and social media content to extend the reach of the guide and its key messages across different audiences and channels.

This project reflects an approach I have carried into later communications work: accessibility should be considered from the beginning of the production process, rather than added at the end.

editorial & campaign design

Alongside major institutional publications, I regularly designed campaign, event and programme materials for Protection International across both its previous and new visual identities.

These projects required adapting complex advocacy and programme content into concise, visually clear formats for digital and print audiences while maintaining consistency with the organisation’s evolving brand system.

brochures under the new identity

Designed the layouts and visual assets from scratch, adapting programme content for concise print and digital formats.

E-learning course promotion across both visual identities

layout design

Designed and laid out the publication, translating dense guidance into a clear and visually coherent format while maintaining PI’s institutional identity.

Flyers for online events across both visual identities

Across my work at Protection International, I combined strategy, coordination and hands-on production to deliver multilingual communications that were clear, accessible and consistent across publications, campaigns, events and digital channels.
